In the fight against the global outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), AMD India, in collaboration with Concern India Foundation, showed support to Government hospitals in Hyderabad and Bangalore.
This step against coronavirus 2019 was initiated by Concern India Foundation that has started relief work to treat and manage COVID-19 patients. With the global outbreak affecting more than 180 countries, the foundation provides protective equipment and tools like sanitizers, disposable gloves, masks, personal protection equipment, N-95 mask, cleaning detergents, ventilators, ECG machines and portable X-Ray machines. Increasing its support to help India’s struggle with technology during this pandemic, it was able to provide high-end health care technologies to improve clinical outcomes and reduce chronic care costs. This support to increase medical technologies in government hospitals was achieved with the help of AMD India in September.
AMD develops high-performance computing and visualisation products to solve some of the global challenges. It provided The Remote Patient Monitors to Government General and Chest Hospital in Hyderabad. Remote Patient Monitoring helps patients and doctors use mobile medical devices to track vitals in real-time. Monitoring devices such as heart or blood pressure trackers use a connected cloud system to send data to medical staff, thus, helping them to remotely monitor patients.
AMD also donated Ultrasound Colour Doppler Machine and Arterial Blood Gas Analyser to Victoria Government Hospital Bangalore. A Doppler Ultrasound is used to estimate the blood flow through blood vessels, which regular ultrasound does not show, while an Arterial Blood Gas Analyser measures the amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood. These high-end medical technologies will multiply the health workers’ capability to diagnose, monitor, and treat COVID-19 patients.
Continuing with these donations, CSIR Fourth Paradigm Institute, Bengaluru, which is a Council of Scientific and Industrial Research body, will also get assistance along with many global institutes as a fight against the virus. AMD is contributing access to Penguin-On-Demand (POD) cloud-based clusters to 21 research facilities and institutes conducting coronavirus 2019 research. Vidyadhar Mudkavi, Head of CSIR, said to Hindu that this contribution would accelerate the work being done by scientists in India across varied disciplines like biological and chemical sciences as well as engineering for vaccine discovery, drug testing, and effective time-bound solutions.
“We welcome AMD’s decision to donate a supercomputing system dedicated to COVID-19 research in India that will be hosted and managed at CSIR Fourth Paradigm Institute in Bengaluru. This will augment our capacity as the leading research and development organisation in the country to provide world-class high-performance computational facilities to the research community,” Shekhar Mande, Director-General of CSIR, said to the Hindu.
