Young and talented South Indian superstar Dulquer Salmaan recently talked about brotherhood in Malayalam cinema, his latest production venture and the Over-The-Top (OTT) streaming market, in a zoom call interview with reporter Praveen Sudevan from The Hindu.
Dulquer Salmaan is back in the show with his films once again, after a long break, following the release of his latest production venture Maniyarayile Ashokan, which features American-Indian actor Jacob Gregory in the lead role for the first time. The film opened with tonnes of mixed reviews. However, it has been trending at number 3 on Netflix in India this week.
Dulquer claims that this is his production house’s second release but at the same time, it is the first film they ever made. Even though it would have been easier to ask a famous executive producer to produce the film and take care of the budget, he was keen on getting a new team under his production house Wayfarer Films, he mentioned during the interview.
When he was asked about the OTT platform and about the success of the films which are released through such platforms, the actor answered that it is more organic. He claims that his upcoming film Kurup will not be viable for a release on the OTT platforms and is meant to have a cinema hall experience. “It is meant to be watched in the theatres. You need a crowd to react to it. At the same time, we all want to keep working”, said the actor in the interview. He also mentioned that, if people are consuming the online content, they will try to make content especially for OTT.
The actor, in addition to this, praised the team of the trending Malayalam movie C U Soon, claiming that it is encouraging for filmmakers and the industry when movies reach far and wide just because of the concept and execution, it proves that working from home is also an option in cinema.
