According to the photographs, the ground and airline staff applauded the woman and her baby as they left the aircraft. A doctor present in the flight delivered the baby boy on board and cabin crew members and other passengers. The baby was premature.

Indigo posted about the incident on their LinkedIn page and also used the same to promote their aircraft fleet : "We are delighted to welcome a baby to the world at 30,000 feet in our lean, clean flying machine! Both the mother and baby are doing fine, and we send them our best wishes. #LetsIndiGo," the post said.

One fellow passenger was quoted saying: "As soon as we heard the baby's cries, everyone on the flight applauded for the newborn and his mother."

"Was on @IndiGo6E 122 flight to BLR, woman gives birth mid-indiair, amazing team work of indigo flight attendants," one tweet said.

" A hospital was set up in minutes and the newborn cried mid-air. Dr Shailaja Vallabhani was fortunately on this flight! Thank you god and the entire @IndiGo6E crew."

Deccan Herald reported that when the cabin members asked if there were any doctors on board, there was one, and he came to help the woman in labor and assist her through birth-giving.

The airline has promised a free flight for a lifetime on Indigo airplanes for the child born on the plane. Although many calls were made for the baby to be named Indigo, he was named Bakshi.
