After taking the world of technology by storm with the RTX 30-series graphics card, NVIDIA, the American computer technology giant, made another big announcement. NVIDIA declared that the brand would be taking over Britain’s most successful tech company, Arm, for a whopping $40 billion (₹295 thousand rupees). This announcement comes as a part of the company’s move to what they define, a ‘premier computing company for the age of artificial intelligence’.

Products made by Arm are a part of almost every tech gadget that has computing powers of its own — from a smartphone to anything as big as a data centre computer. Combining the strengths of its graphic processing abilities with the processing abilities of the products made by Arm, NVIDIA claims to create what would become a new wave of computing technology.
Commenting on these developments in a press release, Jensen Huang, the CEO of NVIDIA, said, “AI is the most powerful technology force of our time and has launched a new wave of computing.” He added, “In the years ahead, trillions of computers running AI will create a new internet-of-things that is thousands of times larger than today’s internet-of-people. Our combination will create a company fabulously positioned for the age of AI.”
According to Huang, as seen in the company’s statement, having the combined brainpower of the top computer scientists from both NVIDIA and Arm, the technology that would come out of the R&D labs would immensely help. It would focus on advanced computing in the field of cloud storage and computing, smartphones, PCs, self-driving cars and robotics, to cutting edge IoT tech and, expand AI computing to every corner of the globe.
Right after NVIDIA made this announcement, the tech world started shooting questions towards the companies’ top brass. To combat this massive influx of queries, an official document was released on NVIDIA’s website, which had in store the answers to the most frequently asked questions that the people had regarding the merger. The company ensured to mention everything from the mode of transaction to who will stay and who will go out of the management and the two companies’ employee base, in exact words in the document.
With the formalities of the deal in its final stages, the computer world is descending into a new era. Things such as Artificial Intelligence enabled tech is becoming more of a ‘norm’ than a novelty. It will be thrilling to see what more is added to the realm of growing technology after the two giants start working together.
