RCB beats SRH by 10 runs

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) got off to a flying start in their 2020 Indian Premier League campaign by beating Sun risers Hyderabad by 10 runs on Monday. RCB scored 163/5 in their 20 overs before bundling out SRH for 153. Yuzvendra Chahal won the man of the match award for his incredible 3-18 performance. 

SRH won the toss and put RCB in to bat first. The Bangalore side started well with debutant Devdutt Padikkal hitting fours all over the field. He put up a half-century before being dismissed by Vijay Shankar, putting an end to his critical innings. With Finch too being showed the way to the dugout, Virat Kohli and Ab de Villiers bailed RCB out with a timely partnership of 43 runs. ABD continued his knock to cross the half century threshold, effectively pushing the RCB run total to above 160. Kohli noted at the end of the match that even though 163 was a competitive score on that pitch, their target was to breach 170.

When SRH came out to bat, Umesh Yadav helped RCB strike early by taking the crucial wicket of heavy hitter, David Warner. But Manish Pandey and Jonny Bairstow put together a 71 run stand to steady the SRH ship. The match seemed under control as Bairstow crossed the 50-run mark in the fourteenth over. But Yuzvendra Chahal bowled a brilliant spell to take two quick wickets that derailed the run chase. Towards the end, SRH crumbled under pressure as Priyam Garg and Abhishek Sharma were quickly packed off. The eighteenth over saw Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar being bowled out by Navdeep Saini. It wasn't long before the entire team was sent packing by the twentieth over, according to The Times of India.

Firstpost reported that Virat Kohli, skipper of the Bangalore team, praised Yuzevendra Chahal during the after-match interview "Chahal bowled very well and the game turned after that particular over from Chahal". He also added that Chahal showed that with skills one can excel anywhere and in any condition.

David Warner, captain of the Hyderabad team, was disappointed with the result. He said that they had the run chase under control but the over from Chahal changed the game, as per NDTV Sports.

Mitchell Marsh got injured after bowling just four deliveries and had to be escorted off the field.
