Holland will play the lead role of treasure hunter Nathan Drake in Uncharted and the film will also star Mark Wahlberg, Antonio Banderas, Sophia Taylor Ali and Tati Gabrielle. The upcoming American action-adventure film is directed by Ruben Fleischer, who is well-known for Zombieland movies and Marvel movie, Venom and is written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway.

The film is produced by Charles Roven and Alex Gartner for Atlas Entertainment, Arad Productions’ Avi Arad and executive producers Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan from Playstation Productions—according to Firstpost. Uncharted is scheduled to be released on July 16, 2021 in IMAX, ReaID 3D, and Dolby Cinema by Sony Pictures Releasing. The actor’s look resembles the video game version, and yet it is clear that Tom Holland and the creators aren’t entirely inspired by the source material.

According to a report in Variety, Holland will cast the role of Nathan Drake, a young, globe-trotting treasure hunter who is styled along the lines of Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones. Naughty Dog, owned by Sony and also the originator of ‘The Last of Us’ games, is the developer of Uncharted, which will be an adaptation of the action-adventure video game series. The film will be a pioneer to the video game series and will lay out fans how Nathan (Holland) became the hunter, and also the introduction of his friend and mentor Sully (Wahlberg).

Previously, Holland had re-shared a photo tweeted by Nolan North, the actor who voiced the character of Nathan Drake in Uncharted gameplay, in which Nolan North and Tom Holland were busy having a conversation in a movie set. Holland had mentioned in his caption that he uploaded the first look of his character on one of his social media handles without Sony’s approval and further added that he got Nolan’s approval to share the picture as of which Sony cannot fire him now, according to Yahoo News.

The fans of the actor were hyped-up and excited to watch the film in theatres and some of them also called him ‘dashing’ to his new look. The actor is currently preparing for the release of his next film, Cherry, playing a prominent role along with Kelli Berglund, Thomas Lennon and Ciara Bravo, directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo. The movie depicts the story of an army medic suffering from the post-traumatic stress disorder following onto which the lead character becomes a serial bank robber after becoming a drug addict, drenches him in debt.

The principal photography took place in areas around Berlin on March 16, 2020 and the production was expected to take place at Babelsberg Studio before moving to Spain. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the filming was shut down in mid-March 2020 and the production was officially resumed on July 20, 2020, shooting in areas around Germany, with proper social distancing and wearing masks on and off the set. On August 5, 2020, Antonio Banderas was tested positive for Covid-19, due to which he had to take a momentary leave off the production.
